Our schooner charters are not limited to just family get-togethers. We also do class reunions, team building, weddings, class trips and themed trips w/any kind of focus such as food/cooking, fishing, wildlife/nature, inspirational or crafting (knitting groups). Just imagine sailing out beyond Penobscot Bay, living around the islands in Frenchman, Blue Hill and Jericho Bays. Sailing with fellow Riggin Relics, some you may or may not know but that all have a love for this boat. Think of all the blooper stories you’ll hear/share – you know, the ones that Capt. Jon & Annie don’t share if they can get away with it!  We’ve never tried a 10 day trip before so to make this work we need to have at least 12 people booked before the end of the 2011 sailing season for this trip to remain on the schedule.

For those interested in extending your stay and sailing Race Week as well (yes that means 16 day of glorious sailing!), we are having a group of rooms blocked off at Hampton Inn for you at a discounted rate. We’ll let you know the details as soon as they are set – per Hampton Inn they can only book a year in advance.

The 10 day price is $1,628; the combined 16 day trip is $2,130, a 20% discount.

*Riggin Relics are passengers who have sailed on 3 or more trips aboard the J&E Riggin.

On our first knitting cruise of 2010, led by Ellen Rogers, passengers walked away with fabulous mittens.  In August an article written by Ellen appeared in Points East, a magazine for cruisers interested in the New England coast, with photos from Maine photographer Paul Mirto. It was great to see everyone having such a good time!

On our second knitting cruise of the year we set sail with Bill Huntington on a 6 day trip after a short field trip ashore to Ells Sheep Farm and Hope Spinnery to see the start to finish cycle of wool yarn. This trip had a focus on hats and color work.

For 2011 Bill will join us again, this time for a 3 day June 9-11 trip that will be more of a sampler theme – bring along a project you’re already working on or supplies to start a new one. As a part of this cruise you’ll also receive one of Bill’s hat kits to take home.

In September we welcome back Margaret Radcliffe who will focus on circular knitting.  This is your chance to learn the mysteries of working on double pointed needles, two circulars or the magic loop, while we sail we’ll talk about and try everything from jogless stripes and garter stitch to seamless construction techniques, with stops along the way to work multi-color i-cord, Fair Isle and finishing techniques.  As always, Margaret will focus on whatever you’re interested in, answering questions, solving problems, and teaching new techniques.

Speaking of sailing on the J&E Riggin - because so many of you like our 4 day getaways we’ve added a few more to this year’s sailing schedule. The last two week fo August (previously listed as 2 six day trips) are now a series of 3 four day getaways including a Full Moon/Escape the Heat trip, an It’s All About the Food cruise, and the Camden Windjammer Festival. We hope you can join us!

Cape Elizabeth Community Center adventure camps for kids have been sailing with us for six years now.  The kids, range in age from 13 to 17, and they were the lucky recipient of our perfect day. 

Webster Head was our destination, with wind out of the South, it was just enough in the lee of the island of North Haven to give us a flat calm anchorage.  In over 20 years of sailing these waters, we've never had the opportunity to anchor there.  Just gorgeous. 

The kids all jumped in the brisk water and then had dinner in the gloam of the setting daylight.

The summer is almost half over and we feel as if it's just begun after such a gift of a day.
