Maine Windjammer a finalist for Shorty Awards!

In late December "MaineWindjammer' (the Twitter name for the Schooner J&E Riggin) was nominated for a Shorty Award – the equivalent of an Oscar for movies, in the category of Travel. Twitter writers from all over the world were nominated. The great news is we found out earlier this week that 'MaineWindjammer' is a finalist for a Shorty Award! The voting started January 13th and will continue through January 23, 2009. It is a treat to be in the running with other travel writers from all over the world and to be in the top 5 is truly an honor. The fact that a small Maine windjammer is one of the top 5 most interesting people posting is amazing to us. The final voting is on and we would love if you voted for us. In order to vote you need to have had a Twitter account before January 13th, of course you can sign up for one now and start following us to see what crazy off season things we are up to! To see how we are doing with votes visit the Shorty Awards site Travel Category.

Now, if that first paragraph made your head spin – don't fret – let us explain. You may not know that there are many ways to stay in touch with us.  One way is through our blog another is through Twitter.  On the blog we write and post regularly, okay maybe not as often as we’d like, about what is happening with the vessels of Maine Adventure Sails – the Schooner J&E Riggin and Schooner Timberwind, as well as in Rockland, in Maine, windjammer recipes and other fun tidbits. These posts can be as short or as long as we’d like. Twitteris a micro blogging site where you have 140 characters to say what you’d like. On Twitter we are known as ‘MaineWindjammer’ and post for the Schooner J&E Riggin as a collaborative of Captain Jon, Annie, Elizabeth and when the crew returns they will contribute too.

One of the best parts about being nominated is the reasons people are leaving for voting for us.  When voting you start by saying “I vote for @MaineWindjammer in the Shorty Awards Finals for #travel because” and then list your reason. Here are a few example of what people are saying about the Riggin.

So wish us luck and we will let you know how things turn out.
