Some of you may know that I write a weekly food column for the Portland Press Herald, the largest daily in Maine. I write the column, Elizabeth our fabulous office superwoman edits it and she sends it off with a picture that she’s made (For anyone who’s sailed with Frank M. Chillemi on our Photography Cruise, I want points for saying "made" not "taken.") I’ve been writing this column for two years and while we’ve never actually met the folks on the PPH side, we’ve developed quite a friendship by email. Sometimes our emails are filled with humor and tongue in cheek comments. Just before Thanksgiving I wrote this column about planning ahead and not getting to stressed about all of the cooking and the family. Elisabeth sent this picture – AS A JOKE. Wednesday morning, she buys the PPH with my column in it just like she does every week. And all she can do is squeak, hold her hand over her mouth and point when she sees my picture right there on the front page of the Food and Health Section. The clerk who always waits on her can’t understand why she’s so upset, thinking the picture is just funny. Elizabeth explains that it’s me, her boss. "oh," she says in a very small voice.
