This year most of the crew is musically inclined and we’ve been talking about music, but not had the chance to get together to play, learn or practice….You understand how painting and varnishing might take precedence. Although, maybe not, as a good coat of paint isn’t nearly as much fun as a well-played song.
On a recent rainy day, we had an impromptu extended coffee break. Jon and Ryan were sharing a cup of coffee and got onto the subject of music. Ryan has been asking Capt.(Jon) about his guitars so Capt. pulled them out. Meanwhile, in the office, Elizabeth, Brandon and I are talking about sea shanties that we love and Brandon began pulling up his favorite artists on the computer. We’ve come up with a list of several songs by Great Big Sea, Gaelic Storm and The Revels. Brandon and I are hoping to have a few more songs to sing up by the anchor too.
We eventually did get back to work, but the break was so fun.

While divided by miles of American countryside I was thinking about sea shaties myself. So what else would an American do but pick up the trusty laptop and Google “sea shanties”.
What would we do without Google? (Did you know that google is now an acceptable english word; having been acknowledge as such by Oxford dictionary? i.e. “Go google sea shanties!”)
Oh, but I digress.
So when Captains and Crew have some time go to this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_shanty
Maybe you can add to this Wikipedia entry.
Oh and I would like to hear from other passengers / repeaters about the shanties they like from the J & E Riggin.
